Tate Britain

Hogarth and Europe

ATS were delighted when TATE Britain commissioned us to produce an audio tour on a Progressive Web App (PWA) for their latest temporary exhibition, Hogarth and Europe. Focusing on contemporary life in the mid-18th century, on display were works by not only Hogarth himself but also by his contemporaries from across Europe, revealing connections and contrasts between them. Visitors were transported back in time into Hogarth’s world of satirical scenes, lively characters and fascinating details.

Challenges:

  • Complex narratives
  • Multiple contributors from across different time zones
  • On site recordings
  • Quick turnaround

Solutions:

A number of specially selected academics and art specialists were recorded as contributors for the audio guide. A range of perspectives was used to explore the works’ complex narratives; the speakers also shared their passion and knowledge about the artists and artworks. This engaging mix of unique voices was accompanied by carefully curated music and sound effects that helped establish the atmosphere and created a unique experience, where visitors could immerse themselves in the works.

Meticulous planning was crucial in order to record a large number of interviewees, across different times zones. Onsite recording at Tate Britain was also set up with a number of contributors.

We ensured that a tight deadline did not compromise the quality of the work.

The exhibition runs until March 2022.
