At ATS, we love a challenge. So, when global safety equipment firm Survitec asked us to create a virtual museum to celebrate their 100th anniversary, we jumped at the chance.
Survitec is marking its centenary year under the theme of ‘A Century of Being Buoyant in Survival’. They wanted to create a microsite, accessible on all platforms, that shared the story of the life-saving products they've created and demonstrated their effectiveness when it mattered most.
Creating an Intuitive Digital Experience
ATS worked closely with the Survitec team to develop a dynamic and user-friendly interface allowing users to freely navigate through a curated selection of archive images and video. We blended their archive content and modern-day footage using motion graphics and an audio soundscape to create an intuitive and engaging experience.
The design of the user interface had to be simple so as not to detract from the narrative, while also being accessible for tablets and mobiles.
Branding and Design
Survitec has a very strong brand identity, which needed to be present throughout the site without detracting from the stories. Orange is a major part of their brand, and this colour was used carefully throughout the user interface, illustrations, and videos. The overall animation and webpage design helped bring their history to life and created a perfect setting for the personal stories of the key people in Survitec’s history: the survivors.
We wanted to make the most of the fantastic historic adverts and felt these needed to sit at the forefront of the page. A number of key survival objects were illustrated in the style of the archive adverts. These illustrations were placed on top of the corresponding black and white archive image. When a user hovered their cursor over the illustration, the archive image was revealed. The illustration also acted as the hotspot where the user could access the video content.
Hannah Burywood, Head of Marketing at Survitec, praised the project:
“Thank you everyone at ATS for all of your great work, great team, pleasure working with you all!”
