Apsley House
Interpreting the magnificent home of the Duke of Wellington
Apsley House is referred to as the grandest address in the capital, once known as ‘Number 1 London’. This beautiful Georgian building was the London home of the first Duke of Wellington and has changed very little since his great victory at Waterloo in 1815.
English Heritage chose four sites to introduce their first multimedia tours. Each project was tendered individually and ATS were appointed to deliver all four sites; with content development and hardware provision. More recently, a 5th site was tendered and ATS were appointed again.
Challenge: To interpret and present the stories of a historic building and its rich art and collections. A popular London destination, the multimedia guide needed to provide overseas visitors and family audiences with a contemporary self-led experience.
Solution: Working closely with English Heritage, ATS’s creative team explored all manner of ways to tell the stories in an original and entertaining way. Visitors are guided by an on-screen character, listen to audio tracks, watch videos and play with fun interactives as they explore the house. ATS provide all the hardware devices, support and maintenance, ensuring a high-quality visitor offer at all times.
