Churchill at Blenheim: A Model for the Future of Museums?
The theme of this year’s International Museum Day is ‘The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine’. This got us thinking about some of the innovative solutions we’ve been working on recently in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It seems fitting that yesterday saw the launch of our ‘Churchill at Blenheim Palace’ online experience.
This was produced to complement the new exhibition at Blenheim Palace and ATS were keen that the website could be enjoyed by both those who had attended the exhibition in person and those who could not. To achieve this, we included the following:
- Videos that tell the story of Churchill’s life at the palace through dramatisation, exclusive to the website
- Games and interactives that are also exclusive to the website
- ‘Explore the Collection objects’ for those who were unable to attend the exhibition, or those who wanted to re-visit the information
Throughout the pandemic visitors have been experimenting with new ways to engage with museums and organisations have tried some radically different approaches. The ‘Churchill at Blenheim Palace’ website is a celebration of how we have adapted and reimagined how an exhibition can be experienced.
We are delivering new and exciting products as a result of new visitor needs created by the pandemic, and our processes in producing these have also had to be adapted. You can read about how we filmed the videos for the ‘Churchill at Blenheim Palace’ experience here.
